Unsound Festival & A Free Compilation

The Unsound Festival is running from February 4th through the 14th.  This is a crafty, experimental, noisy, dancey-type festival where all forms of electronic music are embraced but the stress is on experimental music.  Expect to hear improvisations in genres like dubstep and house, while also watching djs and artists craft original pieces while you watch.   There are even some special events during the week where prominent djs will be providing new soundtracks to cherished and artistic films (example: Carl Craig reinterpreting Andy Warhol’s “Blowjob” soundtrack while the film is being shown).  Anyway, lots of interesting events to check out (some free), so visit their site for more details: http://unsound.pl/en/festival/program/schedule/unsound-festival-new-york.

In celebration of this event, Brooklyn’s best record shop, Halcyon, has put together a 17 track digital download-only compilation.  The tracks vary from noise, dubstep, ambient, techno, and the strange lands in between.  The Blondes’ track “You Mean So Much To Me (Acid Redux Cut)”, Pavel Ambiont’s “Peace Dub (Unsound Edit)”,  Solid State Transmitters’ “Roller Coaster Dub”, and Jacaszek’s “III” are personal favorites.  Hop over to the site and grab a copy of the album for free here.  Do note you will need to register on the site, but it is very, very simple and non-invasive.
